ABOUT

Jake Vanaman is a Musician and Multimedia Creative based in Richmond, VA and working everywhere.

Growing up in Northern Virginia, Jake Vanaman was exposed to a plethora of cultures, genres, scenes, and media. In addition to brimming with venues and concert-goers, the nation’s capital provides iconic scenery and access to museums treasured the world round. Suffice to say, this backdrop bred a sense of creative curiosity and endeavor in Jake that would be impossible to quench.

Having studied music and saxophone since age 10 (yay for elementary school band!) Jake moved to Charlottesville, VA to attend the University of Virginia in 2016, where he met his current main project members in Kendall Street Company. Pursuing a holistic degree in Music and Media Studies (Communications), he explored facets of the industry such as composition, lyricism, & theory, eco-acoustics, marketing, technology & synthesis, curation & archiving, and of course performance & recording. This grand exposure to all aspects of sound-art creation resulted in an artistic identity constantly reinventing and learning, never feeling confined by one medium or genre.

Jake is honored to have been performing professionally for 12+ years now, from the quaint clubs of the Washington, D.C. area to national stages and festivals. He has studied under Charles Owens, John D’earth, Jeff Decker, Rob Holmes, Pete Spaar, Robert Jospe, Matthew Burtner, Luke Dahl, and more. His music has been featured in American Songwriter, Glide Magazine, The Cavalier Daily, The Fairfax Times, Grateful Web, RVA Mag, Live For Live Music, Jambase, Relix Magazine, and more.

In addition to touring and performing professionally, Jake is a freelance photographer and videographer working in the central Virginia area. He has a small home studio that he mixes at and is a house engineer at White Star Studio in Louisa, VA.
